Youth Development Organization
Youth Development Organisation was founded and registered in 1997 to give zambian Youths an opportunity to address and effectively participate in some of the socio-Economic, Democracy and Political Governance as well as Ecological Governance Issues affecting them and their communities.
YDO is one of the most active, consistent and effective Youth-focused organisations in Zambia. Its ultimate goal is to empower young people, helping them to achieve their potential and shape a better future for Zambia.

FOUR THEMATIC INTERVENTION AREAS
Governance and Civic Participation
YDO's Civic Education and Democracy Programme is focused on increasing the participation of young people in local and national decision making, enabling them to have their voice heard and therein strengthening their commitment to democratic processes.
Economic Empowerment and weath Creation
YDO is currently working with over 1,600 poorest women in communities in Choma and Pemba Districts by facilitating the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Cluster Level Associations-CLAs. The SHG approach has been used successfully across Africa for over three decades, helping women to empower themselves financially, socially and politically, and enabling them to provide a better quality of life for their children
HIV/AIDS and SRHR Programming
Today's young people are Zambia's window of hope for combating the HIV&AIDS. YDO's HIVAIDS Prevention Programme aims to equip youths with the knowledge, skills and confidence to change their behaviours positively, with the ultimate goal of reducing HIV&AIDS infection in young people in Southern Province

YDO believes that solutions must come from the beneficiaries themselves, by involving young people in every level of programme design and implementation, youths have the opportunity to influence the conditions under which they live. YDO is committed to only implementing programmes which are driven by the specific needs of people, and involving beneficiaries in programmes from conception to completion.
